Development 20th Jan

Unfortunately Reiss and I had something come up and were unable to attend the meeting it was due to this (and the convienience that we all live together) that Reiss, Tess and I were able to sit down together and establish the points that needed to be discussed within the meeting and then have Tess feed back from the meeting to us later that evening.

Here are the Notes Tess made from the meeting on the point’s we had decided needed discussing:

BBroots meeting notes – 20/01/2014

General discussion
• Confirmation of event name – ‘Barne Barton loves art’
• Publicity confirmed – logos to be included, city council, BBroots, PCA, etc. promote stiltskin, keep text short and snappy, promote pca involvement and partnership, image possibly underlaid on flyer, text and logos to be sent to Ellie to design – deadline to be sent to Kim for Friday 24th*
• Press release – Kim to alter and action as no feedback from community, to also be sent to Edith for marketing through college*
• Exhibition guide/interpretation text – Gem to send relevant text on each exhibition to Siobhan for writing asap and Kim to do final edit and send to community for review, deadline to be sent to Kim by Friday 31st* to send to community (possibly ‘have your say’ info on back) information for interpretation plaques and guide will also feed into website content.

Exhibition elements
• Films – 2 x projectors for showings played off laptop in DJ booth or personal laptops, need headphones*
• Bunting – fashion show scheduled for 4.30pm and signage needed to promote this around space.. Use A frames, Pat to make playlist for fashion show, Kath and Tiff potentially have a kit list?*
• Website station – near entrance on Kim/Gems laptop, table, business cards and large BBroots logo poster to promote, also photo station ‘why I love Barne Barton…’ On chalkboard, upload photos onto website and Facebook page to get more interaction
• Tony Whitehead sound piece – Gem to check what equipment/kit is needed – hopefully he is self sufficient*
• Kit hill commission – Dom Moore and Katherine Dilloway on station, Kitt Hill nursery mural ideas and inclusion for community and name ideas for nursery
• Past art in Barne Barton – images to be separate in some way to illustrate they happened prior to BBroots – development is clear, possibly framing them in some way? Different sizes? – kinterbury creek (green men), mural at the barn
• Refreshments – Gem to confirm with Pat that they are providing and funding refreshments
• School exhibits – photo booth with props and costumes, printer to be manned and photos given out (confirm with Will and possibly Pip to man printing), 15 A3 portraits of children dressed up by road name signs, possibly have a trail/hunt with small versions of each portrait hidden around exhibition with a prize for completing? 10 A3 images of road name signs to be displayed, if room then have some images of process and school work displayed

Flyers

The curatorial team spent time discussing with Take A Part and the external agencies involved in the Barne Barton Loves Art exhibition, discussing how we wanted the flyer to look and how we could then distribute these flyers to the community and city center alongside social media. it was organised that the flyers would need to be done early in order for them to be distributed within Barne Barton and placed into the children’s book bags within the Riverside School in hope to reach a wide audience and engage the community in the event.

After further negotiation with Kim and Gem on the content and information that would need to be present on the flyer such as relevant logo’s and elements of the exhibition. I then worked on designing a flyer which would work alongside the flyer that Kath had previously created for the Bonkers bunting. We discussed that we felt that text and themes should be consistent throughout the continuation of the marketing within the project. After completing the flyer I first discussed it with the rest of the curatorial team before sending it to Kim and gem for further approval, it was at this point that Kim and Gem mentioned that it could be with being a little more family friendly. In order to achieve this I emphasized the children’s entertainment and other aspects to draw in the community and allow them to engage with the arts. This was very different to how we initially thought it would look but we knew that that format would work with the archival show and not so much for the exhibition at Tamar View. After this realisation we amended the Flyer and emailed it both to Pat Patel for his social media and to Take a Part, after final approval it was ready for printing.
