Curatorial Aspects

The context of the performance/ live art, this differs from Tess and mine previous projects, within most of my previous practice’s the larger elements of my practical work have been focused on How would I represent this work within a gallery? Whereas in this piece, the focus is on time and place.

Event 1: Facebookaholics Anonymous, this event took place within the College Cafe, this is a space which was open and public, and at times becomes very busy. After the event we had reviewed that this wasnt really the best place for the meeting due to the space that was available, this would have been better if the space could of been negociated with the college, or if it were in a different place all together. Due to the table arrangements and lounging area’s it benefitted the meeting that there were less people taht had responded to our publicity call out, as we were bale to conduct the meeting in one area, whereas if the audience was larger in this space it could have been a problem. As the interest in FA rises we will need to further look into spaces appropriate for the meetings. It is important to note that the audience had a choice on whether of not they wanted to attend.

Event 2

For this event we began our Survey performance outside Drake Circus, as we have previously been stopped by various people doing Surveys in this area. After around 10 minutes a security guard approached me to tell me that we weren’t allowed to do Surveys in this area, and that we would have to move down the highstreet. It was interesting that he didn’t ask for any identification, I feel this was because of our uniforms and confidentially of our roles. We then moved to the christmas market area by the compass, it was busy and alot more public, in this event the participants have alot more choice. In relation to this it was interesting to watch peoples willingness to interact.

These events hold a different social context, for example Event 2, is a stronger route to promoting social awareness, due to their being less choice and more pressure to comply, it was also a different audience, as it was more public.

Another large aspect is the branding  aspects of Facebookaholics. This includes the logo’s, our Ethos, our uniforms (holding our characters/ roles). As it was important to represent the Fa throughout our performance’s upholding the fake narrative.
